MP Urges Administration for Immediate Provision of Basic Needs to Left Out Residents of Brookshabad and Austinabad

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 17: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has strongly taken up the issue of non-provision of basic civic amenities such as road connectivity, drinking water supply and electricity connections to the few residents of Brookshabad and Austinabad area under Ward No. 21 with the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration.

In a letter dated 13.05.2026 addressed to the Chief Secretary and copy communicated to other concerned Secretaries/Head of departments, the Hon’ble MP stated that despite his earlier communication dated 03.11.2025 and repeated follow-up efforts with the concerned departments and officials, no tangible action has been taken so far to address the long-pending grievances of the residents. He expressed serious concern over the indifferent outlook of the Administration and the concerned departments in resolving the genuine issues faced by the local inhabitants.

The MP pointed out that more than five months have elapsed since the matter was first raised, yet neither any action taken report nor any acknowledgement, as mandated under DoPT guidelines, has been furnished by the authorities concerned. He further stated that the affected residents have been continuously approaching him seeking intervention for provision of the minimum basic amenities to which they are entitled as citizens.

Shri Bishnu Pada Ray informed that he had personally met the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (APWD/Power) along with local residents in the presence of the Chief Engineer, APWD and Municipal officials on 03.11.2025. He had also discussed the matter recently with the Superintending Engineer, SVPMC, but no concrete response has been received till date.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the prolonged delay, the Hon’ble MP urged the Chief Secretary to immediately intervene in the matter and direct the concerned departments for early resolution of the issues. He specifically requested for setting apart of land for road construction wherever required, erection of electric poles and provision of electricity and street lights in coordination with the Electricity Department, and immediate laying of water pipelines to all households. He also requested that until permanent water supply arrangements are made, treated water through water tankers may be supplied to the affected residents, as is done in other areas.

The Hon’ble MP emphasized that denial of such essential services for a prolonged period is highly unfortunate and urged the Administration to ensure immediate and positive action in the larger public interest.
