
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 20: In a significant milestone in the history of policing in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Andaman & Nicobar Police witnessed, for the very first time, the participation of senior police officers from various States, Union Territories, and Central Armed Police Forces. Officers from Meghalaya, Punjab, Gujarat, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, as well as representatives from CISF and BSF, joined their counterparts in the Islands, marking a new chapter wherein A&N Police hosted first ever course at NSCBPTI which had participation of GOs from different States/UTs.
The prestigious Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI), Sri Vijaya Puram, commenced a 5-day Training Programme on “Maritime Security & Coastal Policing” on 20th April 2026. The programme was formally inaugurated by Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in the esteemed presence of Smti Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Training).
Addressing the gathering, the Director General of Police underscored the critical importance of maritime security in the contemporary security landscape. He highlighted the growing complexities of coastal threats and stressed the need for seamless coordination, intelligence sharing, and capacity building among various agencies to ensure robust coastal surveillance and rapid response mechanisms.
The training programme, scheduled from 20th to 24th April 2026, is designed to provide comprehensive insights into maritime security, coastal policing, and relevant maritime laws. The curriculum features expert lectures, interactive sessions, and hands-on exposure, including coastal patrolling demonstrations and underwater operational activities at North Bay, thereby offering participants a holistic and practical learning experience.
The programme is being conducted under the able supervision of Shri Uma Shankar, Principal, NSCBPTI, reflecting the institute’s commitment to excellence in specialized police training.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. A. Koan, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Training), who expressed gratitude to all participants and dignitaries for their valuable contributions towards making this initiative a resounding success.
This pioneering initiative not only enhances the professional competencies of participating officers but also reinforces the spirit of cooperative federalism and unified national security preparedness.
