Lt. Governor Inaugurates Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory of NSCBPTI

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 8: In a significant step towards strengthening policing and emergency response in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency, today inaugurated the Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI) and flagged off two newly commissioned Fire Tenders for the Fire & Emergency Services in the presence of Chief Secretary, A&N Islands, Director General of Police, senior officers of the A&N Administration, Police and Fire & Emergency Services.
The newly established Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory is designed to meet the growing challenges of cybercrime. The facility will help train both new recruits and serving police personnel in digital forensics and the scientific handling of electronic evidence, in line with the requirements of the Nyaya Sanhita. The laboratory is equipped with modern forensic tools, including Write Blockers, CDR Analysis Software, IPDR Analysis Software, e-Sakshya Tablets, SIM Extractor, Mobile Check, Cyber Check and True Imager. These tools will provide hands-on training in collecting, preserving, examining and analysing digital evidence, enabling investigators to handle cybercrime cases more effectively and professionally.
The Hon’ble Lt. Governor also flagged off two new Fire Tenders, which will further strengthen the Fire & Emergency Services in the Union Territory. Equipped with modern firefighting systems, the vehicles are expected to improve operational readiness, reduce response time and enhance the Department’s ability to respond swiftly to fires and other emergencies.
Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor stressed the need to continuously adopt modern technology and strengthen the skills of frontline personnel to meet evolving public safety challenges. He appreciated the efforts of the Andaman & Nicobar Police in embracing technology-driven policing and building a professionally competent force.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director General of Police said the Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory reflects the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s commitment to modernisation, scientific investigation and continuous capacity building. He noted that the facility would help develop skilled investigators capable of effectively implementing the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor for his continued support in strengthening the Police and Fire & Emergency Services.
The inauguration of the Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory and the induction of the two Fire Tenders mark another important milestone in the ongoing modernisation of the Andaman & Nicobar Police and Fire & Emergency Services, reaffirming the Administration’s commitment to building a technologically advanced, professionally trained and citizen-focused public safety system for the Islands.
