Diglipur, April 30: A deepening crisis of irregular drinking water supply and erratic electricity is severely affecting life in Diglipur, where residents across 15 Gram Panchayats are struggling to meet even basic needs.
Residents allege that drinking water is supplied only once every three days, forcing families to depend on storage and manage with extreme scarcity. The situation has become particularly difficult for households, especially women and children, who are bearing the brunt of the shortage.
The electricity situation has further compounded the crisis. Frequent power cuts throughout the day, ranging from short outages to over an hour, have disrupted daily life. Continuous voltage fluctuations and low voltage in several areas have made electrical appliances unreliable, affecting students, small businesses, and routine household work.
Farmers and dairy workers are also facing indirect hardship as the unstable power supply affects storage, processing, and overall livelihood activities in the rural economy.
Pradhan Shyamal Bhowmik of Ramakrishna Gram Panchayat, raising serious concern, said, “Supplying drinking water once in three days is not acceptable. People are suffering every day. Frequent power cuts and low voltage have made the situation worse. Immediate steps must be taken to ensure regular water supply and stable electricity in Diglipur.”
With both essential services under strain, residents have urged the Administration to intervene urgently and restore normalcy in the region.
