
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 16: In a celebration of literature and learning, the Monsoon Book Reading Festival was inaugurated today by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, marking the beginning of a week-long extravaganza of books, authors, and ideas.
The festival, scheduled from June 16th to June 22nd, aims to promote reading habits, foster a love for literature, and provide a platform for book lovers to come together and share their passion.
The Chief Secretary inaugurated the Monsoon Book Reading Festival – 2025 at the State Library, Sri Vijaya Puram, by ceremoniously lighting the traditional lamp, heralding the commencement of a weeklong literary celebration dedicated to fostering a culture of reading among young minds.
The event was also graced by Shri L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Education), Shri Vikram Singh, Director (Education), officers of Education Department and a large gathering of enthusiastic school children.
Soon after inauguration, the Chief Secretary undertook an insightful tour of the library premises, visiting various sections where an array of thoughtfully curated programmes and competitions were underway. These included drawing sessions for Children with Special Needs (CwSN), interactive storytelling, book reading activities, and treasure hunts, all designed to engage and inspire students across age groups.
Exemplifying an unwavering commitment to holistic and inclusive education, the Chief Secretary engaged empathetically and enthusiastically with the participating students, offering thoughtful words of encouragement and heartfelt motivation. His inspiring presence galvanized the young learners to wholeheartedly embrace the weeklong line-up of intellectually enriching and creatively stimulating activities including storytelling sessions, treasure hunts, craft making, quiz competitions, story and slogan writing, news reading, and documentary film screenings. All thoughtfully curated to cultivate curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning.
The Chief Secretary underscored the timeless value of reading as a cornerstone of intellectual growth and personal development. He emphasized that, in today’s fast-paced digital world, cultivating a reading habit is more essential than ever, as it not only enhances critical thinking and creativity but also instils empathy and informed citizenship.
He praised the Education Department for its commendable initiative in organizing the festival and creating a vibrant platform that encourages students to engage with literature, expand their horizons and develop a lifelong relationship with books.
