Mayabunder, June 26: In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Police Stations across the North & Middle Andaman District conducted dynamic and impactful week-long awareness campaigns aimed at combating the menace of drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free society.
As part of this initiative, a variety of programmes were organized to engage different sections of the community, especially the youth. Educational institutions across the district enthusiastically participated in essay and drawing competitions, where students creatively expressed their understanding and concerns about drug addiction and its consequences.
To further the message, Police Stations also held public rallies and awareness drives in key locations, drawing significant attention from locals and passersby. Friendly sports events, including football and table tennis matches, were also conducted to engage the youth in constructive activities while highlighting the importance of a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.
The overarching goal of the campaign was to educate both young people and the broader community about the severe health, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse. The activities emphasized early prevention, community support, and the need for responsible choices. The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, community leaders, and local residents, reflecting a collective commitment towards building a resilient and drug-free future.
To curb the menace of illegal drug trade in the N&MA District, sustained efforts have been undertaken by the District Police. So far this year, approximately 24 kg of Methamphetamine, 10 kg of Ganja, and 6 cannabis plants have been seized.
The North & Middle Andaman District Police remain committed to continuing such awareness initiatives under its community policing framework and urge all citizens to join hands in creating a safer, healthier society.
The general public is requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to any crime or illegal activities to their nearest Police Station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. The identity of the informers will be kept secret and will also be suitably rewarded.
