Sri Vijaya Puram, June 22: The two-day meetings of State Secretariat and State Organising Committee of CPI (M) was held on 20th and 21st June, 2026 at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali, Port Blair in presence of K. Balakrishnan, CPI (M) Polit Bureau Member and Party Incharge for A&N Islands.  D. Ayyappan, Secretary, presented the report on the functioning of the Party in the islands.  Projit Kumar Sarkar presided over the meeting.  Polit Bureau Member reported the decisions and resolutions adopted in the Party’s Central Committee meeting held at New Delhi from May 22 to 24, 2026.

The meetings of Secretariat and State Organising Committee have decided that Party and mass organisations will carry out an anti-imperialist campaign in A&N Islands, with particular reference to Cuba.  United States has intensified its aggression against Cuba through more sanctions, military threats and provocative actions, causing further hardship to the Cubans. CPI (M) meetings decided to utilize all forums to expose US imperialistic policies.

CPI (M) has decided to organize rural workers, particularly the MGNREGA workers in each Gram Panchayat area in the islands.  CPI (M) will undertake door-to-door visits to contact job-card holders (MGNREGA workers) to explain the adverse effects of newly introduced VB G RAM G Scheme.

CPI (M) will carry out territory-wide campaigns during the coming months on various anti-people policies of the Modi government in the islands like price rise on essential items, hike in the prices oof petrol diesel and LPG, growing unemployment, corruption, lack of boat services, poor health facilities, exorbitant air fare, etc.

The CPI (M) SOC meeting has decided to undertake a Party Fund collection from 1st August to 31st August, 2026.  Door-to-door collection will be carried out during the one-month period.  Party has called upon the islanders to help the CPI (M) by contributing generously towards Party Fund collection so that party will be able to continue fighting on various issues of the islanders.

The meeting expressed concern that despite strong opposition by various sections of people in the islands, the central government is going ahead with the affiliation of colleges in the islands with the newly created Deemed University, which will adversely affect the existing students and the future generation. The CPI (M) demanded to retain the affiliation of all the seven colleges with the Pondicherry University, for which the Pondicherry University was created.

The CPI (M) SOC meeting also expressed concern over the difficulties faced by the farmers in the islands.   The Party will conduct separate campaigns among the farmers. The CPI (M) Secretariat meeting and State Organising Committee meeting have expressed concern over the fact that unmindful of the concerns expressed by environmentalists all over the world, the Modi government is going ahead with the implementation of the Great Nicobar Island Projects.
