Sri Vijaya Puram, June 27: A one-day training programme was conducted at the Veterinary Hospital, Junglighat, aimed at updating the knowledge and enhancing the practical skills of field veterinary staff in Artificial Insemination (AI) in cattle. The programme was part of the Department’s continuous efforts to strengthen livestock services and improve genetic potential in the bovine population of the islands.
The training session focused on advanced techniques of AI, semen handling and storage, reproductive health management, and record maintenance. Emphasis was laid on ensuring timely and hygienic insemination practices for better conception rates.
Training was imparted by Dr. Dawande Kuldip N, Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary hospital, Junglighat, who demonstrated the procedures and shared insights on troubleshooting reproductive disorders in field conditions. He encouraged the trainees to apply the knowledge effectively at the grassroots level to benefit the livestock-rearing community.
Ten para-vets from Junglighat & Rinderpest Unit participated in the session. Participants appreciated the hands-on training and interactive discussions, which helped refresh their technical knowledge.
The Department of Animal Husbandry has planned to organize more such trainings regularly across the islands to ensure uniformity and quality in AI service delivery.
